When you click this and you will end up with a long ass page full of different filters. I use this if i’m looking for something specific and it is a more general search.

There is a blue question mark next to most sections that will tell you what each filter does and how to use them properly if you forget

There is a variety of different filters that you can use. You don’t have to use all of them, only the ones that you deem useful to your preferences/search.

Downsides:

Filters I would use here are:

Completion status: Whether you want to see works that have been marked as completed by the author or only works in progress (why you would want that is beyond me but it’s an option). Quick warning, some authors mark their abandoned/unfinished works as completed so look out for any warning that it’s not finished just in case (always read the author notes)

Crossovers: Ties in with the fandom tag further down. If you want works with multiple fandoms tagged or not. Usage can depend on the fandom you’re looking at. For example, the MCYT/DSMP fandom has like 2-3 different tags due to various reasons so I would just leave it. But if you’re looking at any other fandom with only one fandom tag it can be useful

Single Chapter: Self explanatory. Do you want one chapter or multi chapter. Chapter count is not indicative of length. I have read 15k word one chapter fics.

Word Count: How much do you want to read? I find > & < the most useful. But you can be specific E.g.

1000 = i want more than 1000 words overall <20000 = i want less than 20,000 words overall

Language: You can only select one. Just select English or whatever other language you speak but chances are you’re gonna want english for the DSMP fandom

Fandoms: What fandom you want to read, not necessary if you’re using the relationship tags. For DreamSMP, you’re gonna want ‘Video Blogging RPF’ or ‘Minecraft’. There is no specific DreamSMP tag which sucks but you get used to it. You can select multiple fandoms for crossover fics

Categories: I don’t personally use that often. You can select multiple. What gender romantic relationship you want. All pretty self explanatory.

F/F: Female/Female

F/M: Female/Male

Gen: No relationship or relationship isn’t the focus of the fic

M/M: Male/Male

Multi: Multiple relationship types present in the work or a relationship with multiple people

Other: If a pairing has non-binary characters or something, generally just ‘other’

Relationships: Used for both romantic and platonic pairings.

/ is used for romantic & is used for platonic

DO NOT CONFUSE THESE OR YOU MIGHT READ SOME WEIRD SHIT YOU DO NOT WANT THAT ESPECIALLY IN THIS FANDOM

For example:  Wilbur&Tommy = A good and acceptable tag Wilbur/Tommy = What the fuck is wrong with you, get out of my sight

Rating: What age rating you want, can only select one when filtering which is a bit of a downside when searching by works. Generally I leave this blank and just scroll past the ones I don’t want to see.

Not Rated: Author was unsure of what to rate the fic, be cautious of tags and you’ll be fine

General: G rated. Could show to a 7 year old.

Teen and Up Audiences: I would say this is what most fics fall under. Think of it as PG to M rated.

Mature: Getting into it now, scenes may be questionable, violence may be present. MA15+

Explicit: 99% of the fics under this are just smut, but it is also used to tag extreme violence and themes R18+

Characters: What characters you want in your fic.

Additional Tags: What you want to have in your fic pretty much. What flavour you want.

If the tag you want isn’t showing up just press the comma button and it should work anyway

Examples:

I don’t use the work stats section, pretty much useless

Sort by is a godsend. It is useful, use it.

Date Updated, Kudos, Hits, Bookmarks are the ones I generally use.

Date Updated: Sort by New, the most recent fics for your search. Used for when you’ve already read all the popular ones

The next three are generally used to sort by popularity but give varying results. You learn to know the difference depending on fandom

Kudos: How many people have left a like on the fic

Hits: How many people have clicked on a fic

Bookmarks: How many people have made a bookmark
